Cruel Time

Twinkling eyes, heart melting smile,

Genuine tears for dying calf they found.

How could he not tumble, uncontrollably, into love?

Lovemaking so passionate they forgot their own names.

The miracle of life not once but three times.

Thousands of meals, nappies, arguments galore.

A loft full of toys she daren’t throw away.

Three wonderful beings grown up, dispersed round the world.

Hubby went first, just too many years, worry and work.

So she sits alone in the “Home”, memories pooling her eyes with tears.

Staff do their best, but who could love her like those from her nest?

Just another victim of cruel, remorseless, unrelenting time.
