DADBOOK
Adrian Whicher
Got a book I can’t let go
It’s no good to me
Silly, I knowBut it was my Dad’s, you see
“How to grow vegetables”
Got his name and address on the front
(He always liked his stick-on labels!)
But actually, once I looked insideIt’s a brilliant guide
All the facts you could ever want
Like a massive knowledge font
Seeds, soil, varieties, seasons, diseases, expected yield
You could honestly say it covers the field!
A reflection of when we were literally hands-on
When we used to get our hands dirty
When the soil enzymes did us good
Before vegetables were “standardised”
Before unnaturally straight cucumbers came wrapped in plastic!
